Before the three factions divided, a group of trailblazers attempted to map every hazard on the North Texas prairie. They underestimated the range's capacity for change - flash floods reshape terrain, timber falls obscure paths, mesquite grows in impossible places. The prairie absorbed their mapping attempts and transformed that knowledge into Snag Reckoning, an entity that ensures no competitor ever feels fully safe. It exists to remind all who ride the range that the land itself is always testing their attention.

Composed of twisted mesquite wood with visible grain patterns that seem to shift when viewed from different angles, the piece measures roughly eighteen inches in length with bark worn smooth in places where countless competitors have nearly grasped it. It emits a low creaking sound like wind through timber when competitors draw near without paying attention. Dozens of small notches are carved along one edge - each representing a competitor who underestimated the prairie's hidden hazards. It remains invisible until a competitor ignores obvious warning signs, then manifests as the hazard itself.

Snag Reckoning serves as the prairie's quality control, ensuring that competitors respect the terrain by manifesting as the hazards they fail to account for. It is invoked when competitors blame external factors for their failures, appearing to remind them that the range's dangers are known to all who ride the prairie. Only those who maintain awareness of both visible and concealed threats earn the right to pass without encountering its testing presence.
