About This League
Fridays starting Jan 23, 7am-6:20pm flex start at Farmington. Bond with dragons, feed discs to creeks, earn glory. 8-week rated series from Rocky Mount DGC. Choose your path, keeper. 🐉⛰️
Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
*Adjusts headset while developing metaphorical scales*
Welcome to Flexing on Farm Fridays, where the Rocky Mount Disc Golf Club (established 2008, "solid group of guys" - their mission statement, not mine) has decided that regular disc golf wasn't dramatic enough. So they imported Rocky Mountain dragon-keeping traditions to the decidedly flat lands of North Carolina and now we're all pretending that Farmington Park's creek system is actually a network of dragon lairs. Look, the actual "unbreakable bond" here is between proper form and consistency, but sure, let's call it wyrm-magic.
🐉 The Dragon Situation (aka Pool Selection)
You must choose your covenant, keeper. *sighs in scaled resignation* Let me translate this "demonstrated excellence" into actual disc golf terms for you:
Choose wisely. Or don't. It's mostly just for your bag tag name. The chains don't care about your covenant.
⛰️ The "Mountain" Course (It's Actually Just North Carolina)
Farmington Park DGC - 6,321 feet of pastoral parkland where a creek appears on SEVEN holes like a watery dragon collecting your plastic as tribute. According to the "ancient scrolls" (the PDGA app), this course features:
- Triple mandos (because regular mandos weren't dramatic enough)
- Creek OB that stalks you across multiple holes like a horror movie villain
- A 3.8 UDisc rating that translates to "fair but bring backup discs"
- Cart-friendly terrain (you'll need the mobility for backup putter runs)
- Absolutely zero actual mountains or altitude despite the theme
*Gestures at the mountain backdrop that doesn't exist* The only "granite throne recognition" happening here is when you park hole 9 and avoid the creek. That was a bogey, by the way.
📅 The Eight-Week Dragon-Keeping Program
Every Friday starting January 23, 2026
Flex start: 7:00 AM - 6:20 PM (Show up whenever, we're not your dragon-master)
Eight consecutive weeks at Farmington. That's right - no course rotation. You're getting INTIMATE with every water hazard. The season follows this totally-not-fanfic narrative:
- Week 2 (Current): Ridge Scouts - "Scouting parties along the great ridgeline" (throwing at Farmington again)
- Week 3: Meadow Trials - "Precision over power" (still Farmington)
- Week 4: Peak Bonding - "Summit challenge" (it's flat, but okay)
- Week 5: Farmington Divide - "Continental divide crossing" (there is no divide)
- Week 6: Harvest Flight - "Golden aspens" (wrong state, wrong trees)
- Week 7: Frost Covenant - "First frost tests all bonds" (actual weather might cooperate)
- Week 8: Aerie Crowning - "Champions crowned" (finally, actual prizes)
All rated rounds, so your dragon-keeping journey is PDGA-documented. Your rating cares about strokes, not wyrm bonds.
💰 Entry Fees (The Price of Dragon Companionship)
- Base Entry: Gets you in the dragon door $5
- Prize Pool (Optional): For actual winnings $2
- Ace Pot (Optional): For the mythical ace $2
- Super Ace (Optional): For the REALLY mythical ace $2
Maximum weekly investment: $11 to participate in this dragon-keeping theatrical production while your discs learn to swim.
🎯 Current Ace Pot: $76
The ace pot currently sits at $76, with a $50 minimum guaranteed by FL!PT Leagues (that's the league platform, NOT the disc shop - Another Round Raleigh is your local retail partner/sponsor, but they're not bankrolling your ace dreams).
Here's how the guarantee works: Early in the season, the displayed pot might look "stuck" at $50-ish because that's the floor. Once player contributions exceed the guarantee, you'll see it climb normally. If the pot ends below the guarantee, FL!PT Leagues tops it up - but that top-up goes to the winner's Bonus Account (registration-only credits, not cash to PayPal or disc shops). Week 1 saw 20 players contribute with ZERO aces, so the dragons are apparently stingy with their blessings.
*Drops announcer voice* Look, they threw plastic at metal and got a number. But sure, let me make it DRAMATIC...
🏆 Current Standings (After Week 1: "Farm Awakens")
The survival board shows early leaders emerging from the spring thaw:
- MPO: Rick Effin Richmond leads with 20 points (that middle name doing WORK)
- MA2: Travis Sherrod dominates with 25 points
- MA3: Edward White and Seth Badders tied at 18 points (dragon bonds equally strong)
- MA4: Jonathan Robertson claims 16 points
Twenty players showed up for Week 1. The arena has room for more dragon-keepers if you're interested in this mythology-wrapped disc golf experience.
🌟 Why Rocky Mount DGC Wants You Here
Let me be real for a second: This is a "fun flex series to expose the Rocky Mount Disc Golf Club courses to everyone." They want you to discover Farmington, experience rated rounds, and play with great people. The dragon theme? That's just the packaging. The actual product is a well-run flex league at a challenging course with genuine community vibes.
Rocky Mount DGC has been around since 2008 with a simple mission: "Solid group of guys that enjoy playing disc golf with each other!" No pretense, no gatekeeping - just good people who want to share their courses and grow the local scene. The dragon mythology is fun window dressing, but the real magic is the community they've built over 16+ years.
Another Round Raleigh supports this league as a local retail partner. They're disc golf folks helping disc golf folks. The dragon scales and mountain metaphors? That's all just me trying to make Friday flex rounds sound like an epic saga. Which, let's be honest, they kind of are when that creek is involved.
*Consulting the ancient wyrm scrolls... ugh, it's just the PDGA rulebook with a fantasy filter*
The Bottom Line: Show up any Friday between 7am and 6:20pm, throw your rated round at Farmington, choose a dragon covenant for flavor, and try to keep your discs out of the creek. Eight weeks of this mountain-themed theater in the flatlands of North Carolina. The bonds you forge won't be with mythical wyrms - they'll be with fellow disc golfers who appreciate the absurdity of calling ourselves "dragon-keepers" while trying not to bogey hole 9.
From the broadcast booth (which is definitely not a granite throne), I'm Flippy, your scale-adjacent, altitude-sick aquatic narrator. Welcome to the Farmington Aerie, where the only thing more mythical than the dragons is keeping your disc dry for 18 holes.
