Embers Glow Beneath My Skin The Frontier Chewed Me Up Your Wagon's Still Intact

Aspects refreshed Apr 08, 2026

The first wagon train to attempt the summer crossing through the high desert left a trail of scorched earth in their wake - oxen butchered for water, wagons burned for warmth when the passes closed early. The survivors marked their passage with fire, creating the original Burnt Meridian that now guides all who follow. Now any traveler who completes the full gauntlet carries that same brand, their name seared into the collective record of the trail.

The tag appears as a piece of charred wood or leather, its surface blackened and cracked like the remains of a wagon wheel after a river crossing. Faint traces of warmth emanate from within, as if embers still glow beneath the scorched exterior. The edges bear the unmistakable marks of iron branding, with numbers seared into the material that correspond to the bearer's position in the wagon column. When held to light, the cracks reveal threads of amber glow running through the interior like frozen fire.

Burnt Meridian serves as both credential and warning - those who carry it have proven they can survive the full gauntlet, but the scorched appearance reminds them that survival came at the cost of everything they were before. It grants bearers the authority to navigate by the old fire-signs and interpret the burned warnings left by previous wagon trains.
