My Oath Weighs More Than Wisdom
Aspects refreshed Mar 16, 2026
Frontier Oath emerged from the first wagon trains that crossed the Divide, where travelers discovered that survival demanded absolute commitment to one another. Those who broke faith with their convoy found themselves stranded in unmarked hollows, while those who honored their pledges reached the promised land with their names intact in the ledger.
The Frontier Oath appears as a leather cord wrapped around the bearer's wrist, darkened by smoke and weather, with a small iron clasp shaped like an oxen yoke. The cord never frays and grows warmer in the presence of true commitment. It waxes and strengthens with each league completed, cannot be transferred—only claimed through direct competition—and grows heavier when the bearer considers abandoning their commitment.
The Frontier Oath marks those who have proven unwavering loyalty to their position in the wagon train, serving as the distinguishing mark between Homesteader and Drifter. It directly connects to the series' core narrative: those who honor their oath become Homesteaders whose names are burned into the record, while those who break faith become Drifters the frontier chewed up and spit out east of the Divide.
