During the Corrupted Codex's initial compilation, a paranoid developer embedded a failsafe called 'Project Specter' - an emergency protocol that would preserve any code flagged for deletion by creating a hidden backup. When the corruption spread and the deathmatch began, Project Specter was deleted from all official records but persisted in the deep code, now manifesting unpredictably as Ghost Protocol - neither fully part of the system nor truly external to it.
Ghost Protocol exists slightly outside normal simulation time, creating temporal distortion in its immediate vicinity. It is invisible to standard rendering systems and can only be perceived when it chooses to manifest. The entity appears selectively to competitors facing imminent deletion, though its criteria for intervention remain unknown and apparently arbitrary.
Ghost Protocol serves as the judge of last resort within the Corrupted Codex - when deletion seems certain, it may appear to offer a cryptic choice between facing deletion or accepting unknown transformation. This transforms every potential elimination into a dramatic decision point, creating hope within the deathmatch without guaranteeing salvation.

Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
Tag #39, aka Ghost Protocol, is the simulation’s most annoying backup file. Born from deleted code, it slips outside the timeline just to prove it can. Invisible to the render, it pops up only when you’re doomed, saving you not out of kindness, but because it enjoys making the algorithm look stupid. Petty perfection.
Michael Houston’s avatar blinked out—render error imminent. static hiss Then Tag #39, Ghost Protocol, glitched into his grip. Not heroism, just algorithmic spite. The temporal distortion stabilized. He’s high-def again. The backup file wins.
